Continental-NTU Corporate Lab

Who we are

At our joint corporate laboratory with Nanyang Technological University (NTU), we are focusing on developing technologically advanced AI solutions in areas like Smart Mobility & Delivery, AI & Software Engineering and Smart Materials & Communication Technology.  For five years, we have been working on 16 industry-focused projects under these research thrusts.

With our research in navigation, sensing, communication, and cloud technologies we aim to accelerate innovation in Singapore’s automotive industry and translate research outcomes into practical and viable solutions for the urban mobility of the future. The Continental-NTU Corporate Lab is supported by the National Research Foundation Singapore (NRF).

What we do

Alongside our collaboration with the Corporate Lab, AI engineers at Continental Singapore are focusing on three key areas:

New AI technologies

We use new AI technologies that improve AI model performance among constraints in hardware resources and data availability, or generate novel visualizations to improve human vision, e.g., in parking scenarios.

AI learning and business artificial intelligence, modern , transformation of ideas and the adoption of technology in business in the digital age, enhancing global business capabilities , Ai.

AI for R&D Excellence

We use automated software system test management and AI-powered requirements engineering to be more efficient and achieve higher quality in R&D.

From Cloud to embedded AI

We integrate AI into automotive components across the wide range of future Software Defined Vehicle (SDV) applications.

Collaborations & Partners

We are fortunate to have amazing partners in Singapore which we have been collaborating with on our AI development projects.

Collaboration with Nanyang Technological University

Young and research-intensive, Nanyang Technological University in Singapore is renowned for interdisciplinary excellence across a broad range of subject areas including computing, engineering, science, and technology.

Young and research-intensive, Nanyang Technological University in Singapore is renowned for interdisciplinary excellence across a broad range of subject areas including computing, engineering, science, and technology.

At the Continental-NTU Corporate Lab, we are working on AI projects in areas such as:

  • Smart infrastructure for data-driven societies, mainly in multi-task learning/reinforcement learning and other future AI methods, to be more efficient with data and to optimize AI methods.
  • AI for software development, mainly for application in automating test management.

Partnership with AI Singapore (AISG)

AI Singapore is a national programme aimed to catalyze, synergize and boost Singapore’s AI capabilities to power its future digital economy.

Within this partnership, we were involved in five research projects which already have been completed:

  • Real-time monitoring of cardiovascular conditions
  • AI for camera-radar sensor fusion in autonomous driving
  • Adversarial attack & defense assessment for autonomous driving
  • HMI content validation within software testing
  • Auto-annotation of perception sensor data

Representation in the Technical Reference TR 68 working group

TR 68 is part of Singapore’s national standards’ scheme and forms a guideline for the industry in the development and deployment of fully autonomous vehicles, intending to become a standard in the future.

Both Andreas Hartmannsgruber, Head of R&A AI Singapore, and Estelle Wang, Head of Product Cybersecurity & Privacy Office (PCSO) Singapore, are members in the working group working towards reliable standards for the future of mobility.

NUS is a comprehensive and research-intensive university that offers a diverse spectrum of courses, including multidisciplinary and cross-faculty academic programmes.

Under an AI Singapore grant, we worked together on a research project on AI for camera-radar sensor fusion in autonomous driving.

Key Results from our AI research

The results from our project for AI-based software test management are employed by internal stakeholders, saving hundreds of hours of manual testing per project labor and supporting test managers in improving product quality. For example, we improved our test management solutions by using advanced computer vision to efficiently and effectively check car instrument cluster displays. This ensures that the layout and user interface meet our customers’ requirements.

Our research on “Smart infrastructures for data-driven societies” resulted in improving many existing applications using AI-based perception, ranging from smart cameras over automated parking to autonomous driving.
